PRIMI Naish Downwind Dash 2011/12

Once again we invite you to take part in Cape Towns best downwind race dash – open to SUP’s and Surfskis, we will be taking on the classic Milnerton to Big Bay run every Wednesday through summer.

Richard Kohler of Galeforce Events who has put this event together for the past 11 years now, will once again be heading up the organisation of  the DownWind Dash for the 2011/2012 season.

Forecast for Wednesday is looking promising for the opening race with 20-30km/h South Easter predicted.

PRIMI and Naish are once again on board with some cash and product prizes and we’ll be having weekly give-aways at the Big Bay Lifesaving Club after the races. Support sponsors are HTFU, Coreban, Fanatic, Ion, Black Project Fins, Grapevine, Vitaminwater, SUPHQ and BulkSMS.com.

This year the SUP division will be heavily contested, with last years 1 & 2 (the Bertish brothers, Chris and Greg) as keen favorites. New kids on the block Andrew Cillie (aka the Stig), Francois Frick and Colin Heckroodt will be hoping to take on the likes of Ivan van Vuuren, Ross Lahana and Gary Van Rooyen. In the Ladies division Brigette van Aswegen is once again firm favourite, but wave-riding ace Karina Figel may have other ideas. In the Juniors division Mathew van der Linden and Kimon dos Santos will have their work cut-out against newcomer Dylan Frick – it’s going to be humdinger!

Surfski paddlers to watch out for this season include the likes of seasoned Surfski paddlers Steve Farrell, Mike Schwann and Ralph Teulings who all hold incredible times for the Milnerton to Big Bay run in their singles.

Last season Surfski record holders include Daniel Kantor in the Open Division with an outstanding 35.04, Marais Steyn representing the Bullets (40-54 year olds) holds a record of 36.31 and Christo Smit in the Pacemakers division (55 years and older) with 39.46.

Fastest SUP was Chris Bertish with 43.49, fastest lady SUP Brigette van Aswegen 54.41 and fastest Junior, Matthew van der Linden 52.32

When: Wednesday 12 Oct until 7th Dec 2011(9 races) and again from 11th Jan – 14 Mar 2012 (10 races).

Trailer: Park your car at Big Bay and load onto one of the trailers – first come first serve – trailers leave Big bay 17.00 sharp!
